My neighbourhood is a grid of streets and alleys, not unlike Saskatchewan. Its alleys are perfect for strolling without worrying too much about cars and in winter, often the alleys are more passable than the adjacent streets.
Despite a very active day (and a not so restful night), I really need to make good on this challenge today! So I lace up my boots and I step into the darkened yard to go skate skiing in the alley. It’s quiet, there’s a light dusting of snow, and the lights from the garages come on automatically one by one as I ski down the alley.

That sounds poetically romantic. :) Why don't more cities have alleys? We used to love playing in the alley.
You're brave to hit the back alleys at night by yourself, it makes me nervous! You'll have to explain skate skiing to me in the morning, I have never heard of such a thing.
